Beware TomToyo
Posted: 20 Feb 2011, 18:02
Hello I am new here, apologies for this being my first post and in English.
I feel you really need to be aware of the following.
TomToyo advertised on MR2ROC that he was looking for a hardtop with shipping to Belgium as you cant get them over there.
I found a blue one and duly got stiched by the seller.
I explained this to Tom and he aksed me to keep looking for one as he really wanted one.
Weeks expired and then a member advertised his, I emailed TomToyo and said there was one available which I was willing to collect and drive to Belgium, he agreed.
I asked for a deposit but it never arrived (alarm bells should have rang at this point)
Anyway I went to collect the hardtop and 420 miles, 8 hours and £480 less in my pocket i collected the hardtop.
Again I contact TomToyo to ask for 50% of the money via paypal or bank transfer, he couldnt understand why I would want this but offered me cash upon arrival in Belgium.
Again we discussed this and he advised me he had sent £50 as good will gesture of the £500 price we agreed. This £50 has never appeared in my bank account
We arranged delivery for weekends to find he works Saturdays, so I booked a ferry for Sunday, return trip to dunkirk, another £50.
Yesterday he emailed me to say
"Hi Russ,
Although I already sent you the money, I won't be buying your hardtop.. I had a little 'fight' with the misses, and she says if I put more money in my car, she'll leave me... That together with the fact that I'm becoming a dad in 2 months, made me decide that I need to focus on new priorities. I can understand that you want to keep the money, but I would appreciate it a lot if you would send it back...
Thanks and sorry for all... Tom"
My reply was less than polite!
Hi Tom
This is not MY hardtop, it’s YOUR hardtop, I drove 400 miles to collect a hardtop for YOU.
I spent my own money and my own fuel plus a day of my life to get YOU a hardtop.
My car already has a hardtop which matches the colour of my car.
This is why I asked for the money up front but you assured me it would be ok and you give me the cash when I saw you.
I am now £500 out of pocket and have a hardtop in my garage as well as your hardtop on my car.
I was doing this as a favour to you, a fellow ROC member, we don’t screw each other over on that site.
I really look forward to your response but I sincerely doubt you will have the courtesy to do that as you have already done me a disservice by losing my cash and putting my mortgage at risk.
Russ
This was the reason I bought the hardtop on his behalf

I got a text from another MR2ROC member last night to say he was also apporached by Tom to get him a hardtop, but he was cleverer than me as he wouldnt buy one without the deposit.
So in summary I am now £550 down on the deal, I have a silver hardtop on a blue car and a blue hardtop in my garage!
Avoid this man like the plague, and DONT spend any of YOUR money first.
Russ
